This is an attack on poor people. We made abortions legal for a reason. Women were dying. We decided the privacy and safety of individuals was the constitutional basis for the decision. Not individual’s opinions.

"No woman wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal caught in a trap wants to gnaw off its own leg."

OMG, this is an arrow to my heart. This is exactly the experience. So succinctly said.

URGENT: We need YOU to sign up to speak out against HB 695 at the HHS committee hearing on Tuesday morning at 10AM in Raleigh. NC Senators tried to sneak this bill through and over 600 of you showed up to say “not on our watch!” Now we need your help to send the message—the public deserves an opportunity to be heard on this bill and we will not be silenced.More info here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1sXPFezQkv5d5GJd929wFcNsgn8N33laHWJoCf0IWHAk/viewform

Abortion seems to be the only medical procedure that people want to deny you based on how you got in that situation.

Drove drunk, got in an accident and need an organ transplant? No problem.

Messing around with a gun, accidentally shoot yourself in the leg and need surgery? Of course.

Smoke tobacco for most of your life and need treatment for lung cancer? Yep.

Climb a tree, fall out and break your leg? We’ll fix that right up.

Have sex and get pregnant when you don’t want to be? YOU GOT YOURSELF INTO THIS SITUATION AND YOU DESERVE NO MEDICAL HELP OR COMPASSION! THIS IS YOUR FAULT AND YOU WILL DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES!

I have said it before, and I will say it again, the abortion providers who I’ve met, spoken to, and worked with, are some of the most compassionate, kind and courageous people I have ever met in my life.

Arkansas Enacts Strictest Abortion Law In The Country
Arkansas has just enacted the most extreme abortion law in the country - barring abortion at 12 weeks.
Despite the Governor’s veto, both chambers of the legislature voted to override, making it illegal to have an abortion after 12 weeks - still in the first trimester and only shortly after most women will have learned they are pregnant. This ban is two months earlier than any other state in the country. And it comes soon after the legislature banned abortion after 20 weeks.
Certain politicians in Arkansas don’t seem to care that this law is unconstitutional. Nor do they care that this law strips women of their ability to make deeply personal reproductive health decisions.
The Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision affirmed the right to a safe & legal abortion. However, opponents of abortion in Arkansas disregard this ruling in their effort to both remove the right that Roe affords women and to force the Supreme Court to reconsider the constitutionality of abortion. These bans in Arkansas are one more step in their strategy to make all abortions completely illegal.

Feeling so much bitterness towards my home state.

cognitivedissonance:

These wonderful infographics about reproductive health were recently released by The Guttmacher Institute, a foundation which aims to advance knowledge of reproductive health worldwide. They also bust myths surrounding abortion and reproductive health with this super amazing tool called “science.”

These infographics show the often sad realities of abortion in America — for many facing unintended pregnancy, it’s a nearly unattainable, expensive procedure with barriers that worsen for those who are in poverty or are people of color.

The things I would do to have a job at Guttmacher.  Ten year goal.

Mother Jones: The Way It Was →

motherjones:

kharadar-mithadar:

“A society that does not accept the facts is a childish society, and a society that makes abortion illegal—and I believe that the PBAB is a calculated step in exactly that direction—is a cruel and backward society that makes being female a crime. It works in partnership with the illegal abortionist. It puts him in business, sends him his customers, and employs him to dispense crude, dirty, barbaric, savage punishment to those who break the law. And the ones who are punished by the illegal abortionist are always women: mothers, sisters, daughters, wives.

It’s no way to treat a lady.”

This is such an important article. Eleanor Cooney for Mother Jones on the “Partial-Birth” Abortion Ban and the necessity of having access to legal, safe abortions for all women regardless of circumstance, age, race, class, religion, number of months pregnant, reason for being pregnant, etc.

You must read this.
