Someone PLEASE tell me why everyone waits until the last minute to begin homework? I spent most of my evening last night trying to explain math problems over EMAIL!!!! How is that even supposed to work? Then, I woke up this morning with students begging me to help them before class today, when the homework is due. I have class until 10pm tonight, there is no way in hell I am coming in early this morning just to run over things. I refuse to be on campus for longer than eight hours a day, but somehow that shit always happens. I have office hours, utilize them! I have an idea, start the homework in the beginning of the week so then you can come in to me on Tuesday or Thursday and we can go over everything, not 20 minutes before its due. Essentially you just want the answers, which I am not giving you. I had one student ask what an outcome and explanatory variable is because she didn’t remember going over it in class. Oh, I’m sorry, but I’m pretty sure we spent a good ten minutes on what that meant. And if I can point out the exact slide it was on, it means we went over it in class. Look at your notes! That’s what they are for!
I’m so glad that The Artist won so many awards tonight. All the awards were well-deserved. To be able to create an amazing silent, black and white movie is an amazing feat. Especially now that we use flashy, action shots and voices to convey ideas. And, can we talk about how Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech made me cry? It was such a beautiful speech and she is such an amazing actress. Another speech that made me cry? Octavia Spencer’s. She did such a fantastic job in The Help.
Once again, Billy Crystal did a great job hosting! And, the clips of all the actors/actresses giving their thoughts about what film means to them, so fantastic! It reminded me as well why I love film so much.
